Etchings, linocuts, collagraphs
and monoprints

Maggie began her relationship with printing when she was being taught the skills by John Brunsdon, at St. Albans School of Art. Though having set it aside for many years, she has in recent years taken to it again with as much vigour and distinguishable artistry, humour, and "Maggie-ness" as was ever the case.

Each etching, collograph, monoprint or linocut has been hand printed by Maggie - this form of printing is not "reproduction".
Several are on handmade paper, some of which was brought back from Thailand.
The paper is always bigger than the stated image size, so there's room for manoeuvre when framing.

Read about how they're made.

It was a small piece of lino that I cut for this cockerel. I had in mind the Japanese netsuke carvings, where all the carving is contained within a small piece of ivory.

The cockerel is somewhat similar to one of my Llanfair neighbour's, which was still happily scratching in 1998 when I first sketched it.

This etching features a flock of newly shorn sheep standing on a tump beneath the moon.
How ridiculous they all look once they've been shorn, gathering together to hide their embarrassment.

The balustrades against the blue cedar immediately reminded me of a childhood storybook in which a white peacock magically stood out in the dusk.

I have placed the peacock in the Rose Garden in the National Trust House at Erddig, near Wrexham ~ North Wales. I love the shapes of the brick Dutch gable in the Victorian parterre.

In this etching I lie with my love beneath a horse chestnut tree with flowers like candelabras, and a full mid-summer moon. To make love outside on a warm evening is magic.

Inspired by an old photograph which unintentionally looked like an optical illusion of an overloaded cow at Cilgerranfair, in Wales. I quite identified with the poor beast.

Enigmatic figures slowly climbing the hill on a dark winter’s day. Where are they going? Where have they come from?

Ominous hats to shade off the sun, reminiscent of Iberian dress of yesteryear. This etching is based on a cloudy recollection that I have of a picture of peasants by Matthias, a minor painter of the Nazi era.

Inspired by a visit to the wonderful Pavilion Museum in Brighton where old fans were on show.

I used the shape to depict Shropshire's most famous hill - The Wrekin.
