This work was was my contribution to the two week
art symposium that was held this year at "The Lawns" in Broseley,
once the home of John Wilkinson of iron fame.
Now Mel Mars (glass and ceramics) lives there, and
has done wonders in bringing it back to life, and enlivening it more than
ever before.
The 2005 event involved several Broseley and Much
Wenlock artists, and others from Lithuania. A brave, exciting, sociable
and successful venture. Looking forward to next year's.

The old stone Roman bridge over the river at a delightful
village in the Spanish Pyrenees.
Each afternoon the flocks come down to drink their fill and children swim
amongst the trout – and so did I.
Revisited the Roncal Valley in September 2005, and
found it to be still as lovely. The bridge was being carefully repointed
and made good with new granite blocks.
The big trout are still in the pool, and the vultures
sweep down the valley.

This scene is of a sun drenched terrace which lies
below the white village of Atalbeitar in the Sierra Nevada.
The land falls steeply into the gorge where the
ice cold Rio Trevelez rapidly flows towards Orgiva and the sea.
Sheep and goats still abound.

Such a magical place, the air drenched with the
perfume of jasmine and orange blossom.
The trickling of water and nightingales puts me
in mind of the tales of the Arabian thousand and one nights.

On our visit to Extramadura, once one of the very
poorest parts of Spain, cork trees were such a common sight.
The rich redness of their trunks was such a surprise
to us the first time we saw them that we couldn't make up our minds what
kind of strange trees these were.

Whilst we were visiting the Taha area of the Alpujarras,
not far from Bubion, the film crew was in the village of Ferrariola, making
the Spanish film version of Gerald Brennan's "South from Granada".
Our friends from the place where we were staying,
La Vinuela, were dressed up as a peasant woman and a breadmaker.
What fun.
