The art of Maggie Humphry
The art of Maggie Humphry

Illustrations for books and guides

Of course, the biggest and best example of my work for publishing in book form has to be my own "Maggie Humphry's Shropshire", which contained sixty large drawings and a multitude of smaller ones.

My collaboration with Dorothy Nicolle on her book about Christmas brought forth a range of pen and ink drawings, of which I feel truly proud.

I researched each one, guided by her chapters, and sought to capture a sense of permanence and integrity in support of the 'Christmas message'.

I wanted to provide images that could be regarded as 'good art' to support Dorothy's 'good writing'.

A good friend of mine, Sue Hooker, worked for many years as a physiotherapist. She was aware that there were problems in getting people to take exercise, yet also appreciated that by not doing so they were increasing the chances that one day they'd be in need of services such as her own.

So she wrote a little book about it - "Armchair Exercises for Fitness Phobics: Everyday Maintenance for the Busy, Tired, Elderly, Infirm, and Straightforward Lazy."

I did the illustrations - and what fun it was. I even did some of the exercises from time to time !
