Hints of Impressionism
Just a few examples in which I try to capture the essence of the loveliness around me: especially its shapes, lines, and colours.
Reminders of delightful times amongst the hills and goats in Spain, and the rich, stimulating countrysides of North Wales and
Shropshire.

Bridge at Burgui
In late afternoon the Goat Man brings his flock down from the hills to Burgui to drink at the river. Nearby meadows host clouds of butterflies. In the morning, great flocks of vultures swoop down into the plains.
When I started painting I was advised that shadows should be cool colours. But mine use warm colours (oranges) and the sunlight is in cooler shades.
Frost at Midnight
Plas Brondanw, in Snowdonia, was the childhood home of Clough Williams-Ellis. He went on to design and built Portmerion.
The grand house stands on the slope of a hill, its
garden full of topiary that is sillhouetted against the cold moon. The frost turns the grass to a frozen blue.
Lost Village - 2
In the small area of la Taha in Southern Spain, the old white villages cling to the mountainsides like mushrooms. Many of the houses stand where the Moors built them, centuries ago.
Depopulation has left the small terraces fallow for the goats to roam freely.
Vincent's Grief
Sunflowers are such iconic beauties, always reminding me of Van Gogh's paintings. Seeing the film "Loving Vincent" left me feeling so sad at his misfortunes.
I was prompted to paint my own sunflowers, tears of grief falling from their petals. The sad woman's head was taken from his picture, "Memory of the Garden at Etten".
